COVID-19 Summer 2020 Policies
Updated 6/8/2020
After reviewing recommendations from the State of Missouri, ACA, and collaborating with our camp
directors and local health department, Camp Galilee has developed a plan for responding to COVID-19.
This plan is subject to change as we learn more information about COVID-19 and receive more guidance
from other professionals.
We have broken down our policies into Pre-arrival and at Camp. Our COVID-19 waiver outlines what we
expect families to understand and acknowledge prior to their child’s attendance at Galilee for the summer
of 2020.
Prior to Arrival at Camp
Parents are asked to review this COVID-19 Policy and to sign a COVID-19 Waiver prior to their child’s
arrival at camp (see last page). The waiver has been added to the required paperwork section online.
It is advised that campers with underlying health issues and at greater risk of complications due to
COVID-19 must obtain a letter from their physician giving approval for camp attendance.
Campers with Allergies: Because allergy systems may be confused for COVID-19 symptoms, you are
advised to consider taking an over the counter allergy medication beginning one week prior to their
arrival at camp and continuing through the end of their session. Please note that this should be reviewed
with your family physician and any allergy medication should be added to the list of medications online.
Please Note:
* All staff will have agreed to the same Pre-camp requirements as our families.
* During staff training our summer staff will be learning and practicing the same physical distancing and
sanitation techniques that will be utilized during every camp session.
During Camp
Upon Arrival/Check-In
We will check the temperatures of every staff, camper, and family member who enters camp on both
check-in and check-out days. This will be done using a non-contact thermometer before leaving any
vehicles. Campers will not be able to attend camp if they, or anyone within their vehicle, has a fever.
We are expecting the check-in process to be very similar to past years. However, we are asking
everyone to maintain physical distancing between families during the check-in process. Physical
distancing between campers on check-in and check-out day is at the discretion of each camper’s parent(s).
Prior to entering a cabin, camper luggage and belongings will be sanitized.
If a family member chooses to enter their child’s cabin, they must wear a mask or face-covering and
maintain physical distance from all non-family members.
Physical Distancing
Taking into consideration the spontaneous nature of campers, the physical spaces at camp, and specific
activity requirements, we don’t believe that social distancing, as we have come to know it in America, is
possible at camp. However, we are prepared to encourage, teach, and ensure greater physical distancing
whenever it is appropriate.
Camp will limit the number of campers in each cabin.
Campers will be encouraged to keep 6-feet between themselves and all campers, counselors, and staff
who do NOT live in their cabin.
Chairs within the dining hall and at activity locations will be arranged to provide greater space between
people.
Evening activities and other large group activities will be modified to provide more distancing between
campers.
Please note, there will be times when campers just need to give a pat on the back, a high five, or a
congratulatory hug.
Face Masks
During activities that don’t allow for greater physical distance between campers and staff, everyone will
be asked to wear a covering over their nose and mouth.
Camp will provide two bandannas to each camper. Campers will be taught how to fashion these
bandannas
into DIY face coverings that will be laundered daily.
Campers are welcome to bring their own face mask from home.
All campers, counselors, and staff will be expected to wear a face covering during all up-close
interactions with anyone who doesn’t live in their cabin.
Dining Hall
Campers will enter the dining hall with their cabin group.
Everyone will wash their hands as they enter the dining hall.
Cabin groups will sit together during meals.
All table utensils and food will be distributed to campers
by counselors.
Table games will be modified to practice social distancing as much as possible.
A barrier will be present between campers and the food serving area.
All tables, counters, and regularly touched surfaces will be disinfected after every meal.
Bathrooms in the dining hall will be cleaned after every meal shift.
Health Lodge
While camp offers a well equipped and modern health lodge with multiple rooms for isolating sick
campers, camp is not prepared to house campers or staff who show symptoms of COVID-19. Therefore,
The Health Lodge team will take the temperature of everyone who enters the lodge.
Anyone with a fever will be asked to wear a face mask, given a cool drink, moved into a private room,
given time to lay down, cool off and rest, in order to determine if the fever could have occurred for
reasons other than illness (e.g. outside heat or exercise). If, after re-evaluation, the fever is still present,
and we don’t have the ability to rule out COVID-19 that individual will need to be picked up by a
parent/guardian.
The Health Lodge will be disinfected on a continual basis.
Cabins
All commonly touched surfaces will be disinfected multiple times daily.
Physical distance will be maximized as much as possible.
Disinfectants will be available in every cabin.
Windows will be open as much as possible to encourage airflow.
Bath Houses
Campers will follow a nightly, shower schedule and will only shower when their cabin is showering.
Bathrooms and showers will be disinfected multiple times per day.
Disinfectants will be available in every bathhouse.
Camp-wide Sanitation
Camp staff will have continual access to cleaning and disinfecting supplies at all times, and will be
available at multiple locations.
Tables, shared surfaces, and all commonly used areas will be disinfected multiple times daily.
Parent Notification
Parents will be notified within 3 hours if their child develops an unexplained fever or COVID-like
symptoms.
If, after 8 hours, the camper maintains a fever, guardians will be asked to pick up their camper
immediately.
Parents will be notified within 24 hours if a cabin mate of their camper leaves camp due to illness.
Parents will be notified on camp departure day if anyone at camp left early due to illness.
This policy has been adapted from Cub Creek Science Camp Inc.
